An Achilles tendon rupture is a serious injury that requires prompt attention. Common in athletes but also affecting active individuals, it typically occurs during activities that involve sudden, forceful movements like jumping or sprinting.
The primary sign of a rupture is a sudden, sharp pain in the back of the ankle or calf. Many people report feeling or hearing a "pop" at the time of injury. Following the rupture, swelling, bruising, and difficulty walking or standing on tiptoe are common. The affected foot may feel weak, and you might be unable to push off properly when walking.
If you suspect an Achilles tendon rupture, it’s important to seek medical care immediately. At Foot & Ankle Centers, our specialists provide advanced diagnostic tools and treatment options, including physical therapy or surgical repair, to help you recover and regain strength in your foot and ankle
