Neuroma of the foot, or Morton's neuroma, is a painful condition caused by the thickening of a nerve in the foot. This thickening can cause a burning or shooting pain in the ball of the foot that can often be felt in the toes. This can cause extreme discomfort and make everyday activities such as walking, running, and standing difficult.
Neuroma usually develops in people who participate in activities that put pressure on the forefoot. This includes many athletes who perform activities such as running, jumping, or standing for long periods of time.
