Achilles tendonitis, one of the most common causes of foot and heel pain, occurs when your Achilles tendon is inflamed.
Your Achilles tendon is the longest tendon in the body. It starts at the end of your calf muscle and connects to your heel bone, so it can cause pain anywhere along the back of your leg, heel, or rearfoot area.
You may experience Achilles tendinitis if you increase the duration or intensity of your exercise regimen.
As you age, you may be more prone to Achilles tendinitis because the tendon weakens over time.
